Researchers from around the world – including a group from our Partner Laboratory Network – gathered by the sea in sunny Barcelona for the 3rd EMBL Partnership Conference, which aimed to foster collaboration within the wider EMBL network.

The conference, titled ‘Perspectives in Translational Medicine’, was held at EMBL Barcelona from 25 to 27 September. The annual meeting brought together EMBL partner institutes operating in the field of molecular medicine to enable the exchange of expertise and the initiation of new collaborations and research networks.

EMBL Australia group leaders David LynnPirjo Apaja and Ville Petteri-Mäkinen attended the conference and presented their work to around 200 participants from across Europe and Australia.

Professor David Lynn said it was useful meeting international counterparts from the other EMBL Partnerships, including the Nordic EMBL Partnership, the Wellcome Sanger Institute and BRAINCITY.

“We spent a great three days hearing about diverse science from across the various international partners,” Prof Lynn said.

“The members were very receptive to the Partner Laboratory Network researchers and were keen on collaborating and building links in the future.”

The conference was opened by EMBL Director General Edith Heard and covered topics such as translational neuroscience, host-pathogen interaction and immunity, model systems and disease modelling, genome organization, and networks and computer modelling.
